My Favorite Clean Beauty Products

I have been very cautious lately with the products I am using for my beauty routine. One day I decided to look up some things that were in my current beauty products and holyyyyy cow. I did not like what I was reading. My husband and I did this for our food too! But thats a story for a different day. I then decided to make some changes, some much healthier changes! I did some research of some Clean Beauty brands. Ones that are cruetly free and paraben free (although some people might say parabens aren’t bad. To each his own I guess).

I searched for a long while trying to find clean beauty products and which ones would be the right one for me. Through several other bloggers I’ve heard of all different brands but during my research there was one in particular that stood out to me. I actually found it on Amazon while searching “clean beauty”. It’s called Honest Beauty and while reading about this company I found out that Jessica Alba is the creator of the brand which is super cool because duh shes gorgeous, but also cool because I’ve never heard of it before and then it made me wonder if a lot of other people haven’t heard of it either. So I picked out some of their products through Amazon to give them a try. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I have very sensitive skin, I mean I change one thing in my skin care routine and just breakouts everywhere. I’ve been using these products for 2 weeks now!

Below are a list of the products I tried (with links!) and what I think about them

  • Magic Gel to Milk Cleanser : First of all they sell several different cleansers ( 3 I think! ) and I picked the one I thought would be best for my skin type. Since I still get breakouts every now and then, I wanted something gentle but will also get the job done. I wash my face with it every morning and night. This cleanser is also made to take makeup off. I take my makeup off with a wipe but always feel like theres still more makeup on, I do not have that problem when using this cleanser! Pros: It doesn’t break me out, it feels really really nice, it does take the rest of my makeup off, it doesn’t dry my face out and I have no idea if this is related to the cleanser beacause it’s a “clean product” but my pores actually look smaller! I wouldn’t trade in this cleanser for anything.
  • Deep Hydration Face Cream : I have combination skin, at least that is what I have been told but honestly I feel like my face is on the dry side. I love having a dewy complextion just as my personal reference and this does it for me. I have tried so many moisturizers and this one feels like butter on my face. and I love it. It soaks into your skin giving you a healthy glow and completely safe to wear under makeup! Also it smells like a flower field in a bottle. herb central. I can’t get over this one. Obviously it also doesn’t break me out.
  • Eyeliner : I will not use another eyeliner ever again. I was messing with using a little jar with a brush and brushing my eyeliner on. This is a brush with the eyeliner already on it. Its a liquid liner and extremely user friendly! Also beyond easy to remove if you mess up. Since this is a clean product, they use different materials to make the eyeliner and instead of it feeling like I’m putting straight up tar on my eyeballs, It slides right off but only when you use a makeup remover. This doesn’t smudge or come off during the day!
  • Mascara (with a primer!) : Do you feel like you could have great eyelashes but they don’t curl? or maybe they used to curl and they don’t anymore.. or maybe they just aren’t long enough! Your prayers have been answered. You’re welcome. I have always had pretty good lashes but over time I felt like they didn’t want to curl anymore. I’ve used so many mascaras and always found that I liked the drug store brand better than most brands at Sephora! Nothing was what I really wanted though. This is now my holy grail mascara and who even knew you needed a primer?? One side of this is primer and the other side is mascara. You put the primer on first and before putting the mascara on you want to wait a few minutes to let the primer do it’s magic. My lashes have not look this long since I was a kid (and without making them look like spider legs!) No clumping, Not messy, just beautiful long lashes and this is coming from someone who used to wear false lashes daily!
  • Invisible Blurring Powder : Who here has been personally victimized by the white powder?!? If you aren’t careful in choosing the right brand of powder, you could end up with clumpy makeup or looking like you just saw a ghost or even worse...fine undereye lines! I put this powder to the test. worked out with it on, went the whole day with it on. Would you believe it if I told you that this solved almost all my undereye problems? I mean it’s not magic that takes away dark circles but it works great when using an undereye concealer to keep it in place and stop it from creasing. Laura Mercier who???

These are the products I have used so far and in case you didn’t notice, I speak very highly of this brand! I think Jessica did an amazing job providing quality skin care that is also clean! She has a whole makeup line, skin care line, hair, and even things for the baby too! If you decide to try one of these products let me know! I will be trying hopefully all her products because I just love them so much!

My Breakout Secret

Breakouts are terrible I know.

They always come at the worst possible time too. It’s like your face knows exactly when to have a little freak out. Honestly it took me years to find out what works for my skin and what doesn’t but, no matter what I use on my face as a cleanser, I always use a treatment for my problem areas. Most of the time my breakouts end up almost gone by the next day!

So today I’m going to share with you my little secret weapon.

So let me tell you about Acne Free which is specifically for dermatologically-inspired products. They are known for being the #1 acne kit in retail stores and the best part is it’s affordable! Now treating breakouts is made simple and easy to follow. I love Adapalene Gel is used as a daily acne treatment after you have washed your face. Studies show that compared to other retinoids, Adapalene Gel 0.1% causes less irritation to the skin. The other cool things is.. this product was previously only available by prescription but now you can find it in stores such as: Amazon.com, Walmart, and Walgreens and you will be able to get this product at CVS in January 2020.

This product is great for anyone looking to try a prescription strength acne-fighting ingredient. Adapalene Gel also does not contain benzoyl peroxide, which means it won’t bleach your sheets and towels! I will link the product below for anyone wanting to try. If you happen to try it, I would love to know your thoughts!

No Need to go to the Salon for a Blow Out

No one can do a blow out like the salon… or at least until now. I finally discovered a product that allows you to get the look of a blow out without having to go anywhere at all! Bed Head has come out with a product that can help you achieve this goal. I tend to be pretty picky when it comes to which products I use on my hair, I’m always trying my best to take really great care of it. I have always loved the look of a blow out, I mean what is it with stylists? They know exactly how to blow dry your hair to make it look a million times better than it would otherwise! I end up having more volume in my hair and its silky smooth. When I heard about this product I wanted to give it a try but how could something even compare to getting an actual blow out at the salon??

IMG_1711.JPG

I am officially completely in love with this product! The new Bed Head Blow Out Freak One – Step volume booster dryer does exactly what it says it does, plus it has Tourmaline Ceramic that helps keep your mane in check. The Ego Boost M mixed pattern bristles is what gives you volume, adds definition and texture for a smooth, bolder style. Did I mention its super user friendly?? Rather you have experience styling hair or none at all, this product is beyond easy to use and you’ll be hooked on it too! Normally I curl my hair or create waves, since I have naturally straight hair it can be hard to gain volume. Now I can have straight hair with volume! Problem solved.

DIY Body Scrub

To be honest up until today I have never used a body scrub, I never really needed a reason to. Summer is coming thank goodness, Spring has brought tons and tons of rain. I decided to use some spray tan to get my mind into the summer mood or try to at least. I was doing some research and saw that using a body scrub before you use spray tan is the best way to make the tan last longer. Since I was using the spray tan today, I needed to resort to things I had in my house already. After using the scrub my skin was SO SOFT no wonder why people like using this. I naturally have soft skin but dangggg this stuff is like magic. I wanted to share how I made my scrub –

  • 1 cup cane sugar – brown sugar – This one is the most gentle on skin which is great because I have sensitive skin.
  • 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil (give or take) – you don’t want the sugar to get soupy so only pour a tablespoon at a time and mix it in before adding more.
  • This is optional but I added a few drops of vitamin E – this is an extremely beneficial vitamin for your skin, I use it everyday in general.
  • Favorite essential oil – this is just for the smell and makes it feel like more of a spa experience.

I will definitely be using this more often, now my skin feels super soft and moisturized!

Lets Get This Straight

I grew up at a time when straight hair was on trend. Not just naturally straight hair, I mean SUPER straight hair that you can only achieve with a straightener. But before straighteners were really a thing, I remember walking into the living room and seeing my sister laying down on the wood floor and my mom would iron her hair. Yes I said iron, with an actual clothing iron. That was really when straight hair started to be a big trend. So over time you could say that I have had many many many straighteners in my life. Only every straightener that I owned never really met my expectations. I finally found my dream straight hair duo and I will not go back to using anything else to achieve my straight hair.

When I tried the Bed Head Morning After Straightener, I was surprised at how straight my hair got. Typically after blow drying my hair, my hair gets frizzy so I was curious to see how well the straightener would tame it. After using this, my hair was probably the straightest it has ever been! I would have loved to have this straightener growing up. The Morning After Straightener comes with different settings to keep your hair looking smooth without unnecessary heat. The different settings was one of my favorite parts – wash day, second day, third day. This makes it easy to know which setting would be best!

Now I did say hair straightening duo so the other product I can’t live without is the Bed Head Morning After Hair Smoother. Ever wake up in the morning and notice that your hair looks like you had dreams about getting chased by a lion and you got caught up in some trees so now you have hair just everywhere… Not to mention it isn’t wash day. This hair smoother allows you to have that beautiful smooth hair you had the day before by detangling and smoothing out those crazy dream creases without excessive heat!

Electric Toothbrush Review

Got a new electric toothbrush today…it cleans well and that’s the tooth!

hahaha ok now that I got the joke out of the way…

To be honest, and If my husband is reading this, he will agree.. I hate going to the dentist. The smells, the noises, the toothbrush and poking… it’s all just uncomfortable. Which reminds me I need to schedule a dentist appointment. So when I was asked to do a review on an electric toothbrush, I had to think about it. I haven’t used one before and like I said before I don’t like the tools the dentist use, so why would I want to use one? I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and try it, hoping maybe if I use it then I will get use to the dentist.

The electric toothbrush I was sent is by Smile Brilliant called cariPRO Ultrasonic. The first thing I noticed about this were all the different settings! I was so worried that since my teeth are very sensitive that the vibrations would be way too harsh. There is a “sensitive” setting on the brush and that one is my favorite! I can’t rave about this enough, the brush itself is great for all types.

DSC00635.JPG

The first time I used the brush, I noticed that the vibration paused. I thought it was a glitch or maybe I put the head on wrong (the heads are replaceable! Yay!). For a few days I couldn’t figure out what it was.. until I started reading more about it and realized that when it pauses, it’s telling you to move on to a different section. I have never been good at reading instructions when it comes to new goodies. I just get excited about it and completely forget to read the manual, with that being said.. please remind me not to buy anything from Ikea. I love the fact that this tells you when to switch to a new area, not only do I forget but this feature makes it great for kids too!

DSC00658.jpg

After using this for over a week now, I noticed that overall my mouth feels cleaner. My teeth haven’t felt sensitive using it, I find myself brushing my teeth longer than I did because of the pausing of the brush. With all of that being said, this brush is a win in my book! I will link the product down below if you would like to try it out yourself, did I mention this could be a good gift too? If you have any questions about the brush feel free to ask.

Bangs for Days: Why I got Them

Soooooo when I was a kid I had bangs, as I got older I grew out of them and decided I wanted something different. I had the “swoop” bang and no bangs back and forth for several years. Why would I go back to my childhood look?

  • First of all my forehead is a little bigger than average. Not much bigger but I can see the difference. So that was one thing I considered

  • I used to be really big into makeup but once I started getting older, I wasn’t into it as much. I started wearing less makeup and spending more time having adventures than sitting in front of the mirror. Now if you’re a striving makeup artist then I completely understand and you do your thing girllll

  • This point kind of goes along with the makeup thing – when I was in high school it was cool to have thin eyebrows.. so I plucked the crap out of them and now I miss them (I was one of those lucky kids with amazing eyebrows) Note to self when having a little girl: Don’t let her pluck her eyebrows down to hardly anything. Anyways, I had to fill them in every single day which took up most of the time and these days I’m all about having experiences that enrich your life instead. Time is precious, use it wisely. Now I don’t worry about my eyebrows because you can’t really see them! Life hack

  • I wanted something that went along with my personality

If you’re wondering whether or not you should get bangs, first do what I did – put your hair into a bun at the very top of your head and use the pieces of hair that hang down out of the bottom of the bun as your “bangs” & take some selfies of course

Still don’t know if you want them?

Try listing reasons like I did and figure out exactly why you want them and if they fit with your lifestyle.

My Core beauty Favorites

Hey guys! I wanted to share with you my current core beauty favorites! These are things that I’ve been using everyday, a few are new favorites but others are ones that I’ve been using for a long time.

First I want to talk about primer (since that is what goes on first anyways!) I was using the Cover FX primer that also has blemish medicine built into it which is probably the coolest thing ever! Only downside is that it’s pretty thick, even when you try to massage it in the skin, it stays pretty thick which might be good for some people but after awhile I felt like I just had so much makeup on. So I recently stopped using that and started using Marc Jacobs Face Primer. Can I just tell you that this primer is the most amazing thing I’ve ever used on my skin. I have combination skin but I also live in California and it’s extremely dry here, so I need something moisturizing. And this is MOISTURIZING! It’s amazing if you have skin like mine or live somewhere where you need extra care for your skin. If you have oily skin do not try this. guaranteed it will be too much moisture. One more thing I wanted to mention is that the primer allows you to only have to use the smallest amount of foundation, which means in the long run it will save you product and money!

Did I mention that it smells really good? It doesn’t smell like chemicals at all, it just smells amazing. Anyways! Link is below for the primer.

Marc Jacobs Primer

Lets talk about foundation next, which is also another new product that I’m amazed with. It’s the Dior Backstage, this product will be available on June 15th (tomorrow). I was lucky enough to try it before it came out! Now I know I said that the primer smells good but oh my goodness…. this smells incredible too. A little goes a long way with this one and the coverage is medium, it feels sheer which I love. It does last all day as long as you use setting spray. Before this foundation I was using Cover FX and I still really like that one but I think Dior stole my heart.

Dior Backstage

The Kat Von D contour is beyond my favorite. I refuse to use a cream contour because of how messy it can get, I feel like its hard to mess up when using this. It lasts all day long and it’s made to where you can get refillable pans for the shades you run out of instead of buying the whole thing again! Also the packaging is gorgeous! Perfect combination of sexy and sleek.

Kat Von D contour

The Laura Mercier setting powder will always be in my makeup bag. This doesn’t create creases under your eyes when used properly. You certainly don’t need to use a whole lot but I recommend getting the big jar of it instead of the small because it’s definitely worth it.

Laura Mercier powder

The only thing I will ever use on my eyebrows is the Anastasia brow dip in the shade ebony. This allows you to create whatever kind of brow look you want and it stays on so well! It’s so creamy and once again a little goes a long way, very long way. I will mention that once the browdip starts drying out though, it doesn’t have the same effect and it just doesn’t work very well so It’s best to keep the lid on it so it will last as long as possible. I also just noticed that it’s called Dipbrow but that just sounds ridiculous to me so I’m going to call it brow dip!

browdip or dipbrow

So these are my core products that I use everyday, I also forgot to list my favorite setting spray but really I feel like there isn’t a competition here, the urban decay all nighter spray is the best and my makeup lasts ALL DAY. Even if I’m riding roller coasters at six flags, I still have all my makeup on.
